LASALLE College of the Arts

Lead the global arts business and stimulate the next-gen creative scene.

The BA (Hons) Arts Management programme focuses on contemporary and emerging issues, as well as policy interventions that are impacting the creative sector and shaping the arts markets.

It aims to develop leadership, business, communication and managerial skills to nurture the next generation of thought leaders and professional decision-makers in the arts and cultural industries. You will develop your creative practice and critical thinking, and sharpen your entrepreneurial mind to recognize opportunities in order to proactively and strategically design your career.

The programme also emphasizes the economic vitality and environmental sustainability of the creative sector, and digitalisation of artistic practices and management tasks. It also highlights alternative approaches and opportunities within traditional arts business models that are emerging due to globalisation and the rise of new platforms and data.

Graduates join the arts and cultural sector in Singapore and the region, helping to drive their organisations’ efforts to survive and thrive in a highly competitive and ever-changing landscape. Your knowledge of cultural policy equips you to join advocacy groups and national organisations to promote arts and culture. Your understanding of artists and audiences enables you to programme compelling and meaningful exhibitions and shows, while your entrepreneurial skills and knowledge provide you with the tools to start your own cultural enterprise.

Goals and Objectives

The BA (Hons) Arts Management programme is strategically designed to achieve two interconnected aims: to cultivate a new generation of agile, ethical leaders for the global creative economy, and to advance the profession of arts management itself through innovative, responsive education.

The programme’s overarching goals are threefold. First, it seeks to develop versatile professionals who possess not only core managerial and business acumen but also the creative and critical thinking necessary to navigate complex cultural landscapes. Second, it aims to foster an entrepreneurial and sustainable mindset, empowering graduates to ensure the economic vitality and environmental resilience of the arts sector while harnessing digital transformation. Finally, the programme is committed to providing a personalised and globally attuned learning journey, enabling each student to construct a unique professional identity informed by interdisciplinary practice and international perspectives.

To translate these ambitions into measurable outcomes, the programme is built upon clear objectives. Upon graduation, students will be able to critically analyse the cultural sector through the integrated lenses of policy, economics, and law. They will demonstrate professional competency by designing and managing projects, applying principles of marketing, finance, and leadership. Through collaborative and individual work, they will hone advanced problem-solving skills and digital literacies to innovate within traditional and emerging arts business models. Crucially, they will culminate their studies by producing a significant research or entrepreneurial project, synthesising their learning to generate new knowledge or practical initiatives. Ultimately, graduates will emerge as proactive, culturally astute practitioners equipped to lead with integrity, advocate for sustainable practices, and shape the future of the arts locally and globally.

Curriculum

The curriculum of the BA (Hons) Arts Management programme is a structured, three-year journey that progresses students through distinct phases of knowledge acquisition, integration, and professional application.

The First Year establishes essential foundations. Semester 1 provides an Introduction to core principles of arts management and the wider cultural landscape, while simultaneously equipping students with the critical academic, media, and design literacies required for success. Semester 2 builds on these Basics by introducing the defining professional practices of arts marketing and financial management, alongside modules that deepen critical thinking within artistic and digital contexts.

In the Second Year, learning shifts to application within broader frameworks. Semester 1, Contexts, immerses students in the cultural, economic, political, and legal environments that shape the sector through modules in Cultural Policy, Cultural Economics, Arts Law, and Arts Leadership. This theoretical understanding is then activated in Semester 2 through Knowledge Applications. Students engage in a flagship interdisciplinary project management module, tackling real industry challenges in teams, and tailor their skills further by selecting two electives to specialise in areas such as gallery or performing arts management.

The culminating Third Year is dedicated to Production and synthesis. Students undertake a major research project, choosing between a traditional academic dissertation or a practice-based research-creation track, to generate new knowledge in their chosen field. This is paralleled by an extended Graduation Project designed to cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset. This capstone module provides the tools to develop a viable commercial or social venture, preparing graduates to launch their careers as innovative leaders and enhance their employability in a dynamic creative economy.
