How has being a member impacted your career, teaching, or research in arts administration?
Being a AAAE member has been invaluable as a teacher of arts administration! My first teaching position required me to build a lot of curriculum, and AAAE provided resources and access to colleagues that helped ensure that the new curriculum followed best-practices and the needs of the field. In my current role, AAAE’s annual conference provides a tremendous annual opportunity to learn new content and teaching techniques that I can bring back to my program to benefit our students. I don’t think that I would be nearly as strong a teacher of arts administration as I am without AAAE!
What would you say to someone who is considering joining AAAE?
There are lots of organizations that serve arts practitioners and arts researchers and arts managers, but AAAE is where it is at for arts administration educators. There is no better forum for connecting with peers or learning the latest updates from the field, and few organizations of any stripe so welcoming and supportive. If someone is considering joining AAAE, they 100% should and will likely end up wondering why they didn’t join even sooner!
