Administrative Practices In Academic Theatre

This paper examines trends and best practices in the administration of university and college theatre departments. The paper examines how administrative practices common to professional theatre are being employed in academic theatre and what administrative challenges are unique to academic theatre. The author polled theatre department chairs and senior administrators of degree-granting institutions in the United States and Canada. Representatives from sixty-seven institutions completed an online survey, and ten of these agreed to interviews about trends in academic theatre.
