Abstract

This paper examines Richard Florida's creative class theory and a derivative economic development plan, the Michigan Cool Cities project. While Florida's work provides interesting social commentary, and his economic theories may have some validity, his theory has stronger applications when utilized as a tool for arts advocacy and audience development.
